Faced with and continuing to grapple with the exceptional years of the 2020 and 2021 pandemic, E-MRS evaluated various options for how to serve the materials researcher community as a platform for scholarly exchange and dissemination of the latest results in 2021. The concept of restarting scientific meetings under E-MRS aims to go beyond a simple, temporary solution in the form of a virtual conference. The Covid-19 crises are intended to serve as a starting point for the further development of the materials research exchange platform to serve the new needs of researchers and engineers.
